Assessment of Cognitive Processes: The Pass Theory of Intelligence by J. P. Das,

Assessment of Cognitive Processes: The Pass Theory of Intelligence by J. P. Das,
For over 20 years, J. P. Das, Jack A. Naglieri, and John R. Kirby - in collaboration with many other colleagues - have been shaping a model of cognitive processes that has sought to clarify the concept of intelligence and to restructure the approach towards its assessment. The result of these many efforts is the PASS model - the central focus of this volume. PASS stands for Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive processes - cognitive functions which form a complex and interdependent system that helps us understand the nature of individual differences, provides a framework within which to conceptualize assessment, and leads directly to theory-based remediation. From this model emerges a multidimensional view of cognitive processes, presented in detail in this first-of-its-kind guide to new thinking on intellectual assessment. While integrating cognitive psychology, educational psychology, and intellectual assessment, the book emphasizes cognitive functions or processes, rather than "intelligence" and shows clearly how the PASS model provides a multidimensional view of cognitive competence. In eleven comprehensive chapters the authors provide a complete summary of the PASS theory, detail the experimental research on the model, describe the development of assessment procedures including the Das-Naglieri: Cognitive Assessment System, compare the relationship between the model and traditional IQ tests, and recommend remediation procedures for cognitive dysfunctions. A unique feature of the book is that it facilitates a new understanding of learning disabilities and remediation, attention deficits, and other learning difficulties not previously provided by traditional assessment ofintelligence. A final chapter summarizes the authors' view of the need for an evolutionary step in the field of intelligence and intelligence testing.

Emotional Disorders & Metacognition - InnovativeCognitive Therapy by Adrian Wells,
Emotional Disorders & Metacognition - InnovativeCognitive Therapy by Adrian Wells,
Cognitive therapies for psychological disorders are increasingly recognised as effective and client-friendly treatment approaches that are well supported by outcome and research evidence. However, there is much scope for improving our knowledge and treatment of emotional disorders. This book helps to develop an understanding of the internal rules and processes that guide thinking, and the factors that lead individuals to become trapped in cycles of negative and distorted thought. In a ground-breaking new approach to cognitive therapy, Adrian Wells addresses limitations of cognitive theories and describes how metacognition, self-attentional processes, and worry/rumination strategies are central to emotional vulnerability, to the maintenance of trauma-related stress reactions, to and emotional disorders. Using the meta-cognitive model, the author describes in detail new clinical strategies which help to guide the clinician towards a fresh cognitive approach to changing negative thoughts, distorted beliefs, and distressing emotions. Trainee therapists and practitioners, as well as experts working at the frontiers of cognitive therapy, will welcome this book for its introduction to this innovative, powerful approach to emotional disorders details clinical guidelines and applications theoretical and research-based development of cognitive therapy "Any clinician, researcher, or theoretician dealing with emotional disorders should read this book. Adrian Wells is doing some of the most creative and thoughtful work today on the nature and treatment of emotional disorders. As one of the few individuals to thoughtfully integrate emerging principles of cognitive science with thepractice of cognitive therapy. Wells provides a fresh perspective on the process of change in emotional disorders that leads to innovative new treatment strategies.

It places a particular emphasis on studying the cognitive effects of brain injury or neurological illness with a view to inferring models of normal cognitive functioning.

Social cognitive theory of morality - The social cognitive theory of morality emphasizes a distinction between a child's moral competence and moral performance. Moral competence or acquisition of moral knowledge depends primarily on cognitive-sensory processes.

Cognitive neuropsychiatry - Cognitive neuropsychiatry is a sub-discipline of psychology and psychiatry that aims to understand mental illness and psychopathology in terms of models of normal psychological function. It is also a way of uncovering normal psychological processes by studying the effects of their change or impairment.
