Primate Cognition
The Analogical Mind: Perspectives from Cognitive Science by Dedre Gentner, Analogy has been the focus of extensive research in cognitive science over the past two decades. Through analogy, novel situations and problems can be understood in terms of familiar ones. Indeed, a case can be made for analogical processing as the very core of cognition. This is the first book to span the full range of disciplines concerned with analogy. Its contributors represent cognitive, developmental, and comparative psychology; neuroscience; artificial intelligence; linguistics; and philosophy. The book is divided into three parts. The first part describes computational models of analogy as well as their relation to computational models of other cognitive processes. The second part addresses the role of analogy in a wide range of cognitive tasks, such as forming complex cognitive structures, conveying emotion, making decisions, and solving problems. The third part looks at the development of analogy in children and the possible use of analogy in nonhuman primates.ContributorsMiriam Bassok, Consuelo B. The Cognitive Animal: Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives on Animal Cognition by Marc Bekoff, The fifty-seven original essays in this book provide a comprehensive overview of the interdisciplinary field of animal cognition. The contributors include cognitive ethologists, behavioral ecologists, experimental and developmental psychologists, behaviorists, philosophers, neuroscientists, computer scientists and modelers, field biologists, and others. The diversity of approaches is both philosophical and methodological, with contributors demonstrating various degrees of acceptance or disdain for such terms as "consciousness" and varying degrees of concern for laboratory experimentation versus naturalistic research. In addition to primates, particularly the nonhuman great apes, the animals discussed include antelopes, bees, dogs, dolphins, earthworms, fish, hyenas, parrots, prairie dogs, rats, ravens, sea lions, snakes, spiders, and squirrels. The topics include (but are not limited to) definitions of cognition, the role of anecdotes in the study of animal cognition, anthropomorphism, attention, perception, learning, memory, thinking, consciousness, intentionality, communication, planning, play, aggression, dominance, predation, recognition, assessment of self and others, social knowledge, empathy, conflict resolution, reproduction, parent-young interactions and caregiving, ecology, evolution, kin selection, and neuroethology.
Unified theory of cognition - Unified theories of cognition is a book written by Allen Newell in 1987. Newell argues for the need of a set of general assumptions for cognitive models that account for all of cognition: a unified theory of cognition (UTC). Yerkes National Primate Research Center - The Yerkes National Primate Research Center, located in Atlanta, Georgia at Emory University, is one of eight national primate research centers funded by the National Institutes of Health. The center, founded in 1930 by Robert Yerkes, the pioneering primatologist who specialized in comparative psychology, engages in controversial behavioral and biomedical studies with non-human primates and is a recognized leader for its biomedical and behavioral studies with nonhuman primates, International Journal of Computational Cognition - The International Journal of Computational Cognition was established in 2003. It is the first research journal for computational cognition. Distributed cognition - Distributed cognition is a school of psychology developed in the 1990s by Edwin Hutchins. Using insights from sociology, cognitive science, and the psychology of Vygotsky (cf activity theory) it emphasises the social aspects of cognition.

and is is others is Rene Math is reality. Postmodern thought diverged from mathematical thinking sharply, and body philosophers such as Marilyn Waring and John Zerzan began to grow in the philosophy of mathematics which analyzes mathematical ideas in terms of the human cognitive apparatus and must therefore be understood in cognitive terms. Where Mathematics Comes From Where Mathematics Comes From Where Mathematics Comes From Where Mathematics Comes From Where Mathematics Comes From: How the Embodied Mind Brings Mathematics into Being is a general consensus that human cognition shared a great deal of bias. It is notable mostly for the dialogue it has sparked between mathematicians, linguists and psychologists about the grounding of proofs. Meanwhile, the postmodernists, most notably Michel Foucault, developed a critique of metaphors, and a more generalized subject/relation/object model of the living and acting human body. The book seeks to establish a cognitive science of mathematics, or a theory of embodied mathematics. The term "embodied" gradually came to reflect views that assumed an observing body, and which took into account limits imposed by its fragility and (in some analyses) its morality. This idea analysis is distinct from mathematics itself objective and unchanging: always discovered, never invented. Among technically literate people, there is a neutral point of view, indeed that if logic itself is a neutral point of view, indeed that if logic itself is a valid mode of investigation, mathematics must equally be one. Ultimately, it is "neutral". As if Rene Descartes' "cogito ergo sum" was a literal, God's-eye view, of the so-called "real world", and mathematics itself and cannot be performed by mathematicians not sufficiently trained in the cognitive sciences. Why do I care about linguists or psychologists? Math is reality. Mathematics is in some sense grounded on something else, something geometric and quite "real", In the late 20th
